Marla’s Sandwich Shop & Eatery is located within Paragon Arcade, housed among beautiful Victorian architecture alongside some other notable independents. The eatery is adorned with an eclectic mix of furniture and decor, with mid-century cabinets, jazz music posters and vintage homewares. Evidently, Marla’s is a perfect example of a Hull independent business, with owners Sam and Sarah always serving up their delicious food with love and care. With attention to their welcoming atmosphere.
The menu at Marla’s is often changing. However, the menu always offers up a wide range of food including meat, veggie and vegan options. Breakfast options are available all day, including a granola and yoghurt or coconut porridge bowl served with homemade jam and fresh fruit. Or for the customer looking for something a little more indulgent, one of Marla’s famous breakfast sandwiches, which are also available as a bowl. Lunch is served from 12. The lunch menu is currently offering an array of options, including mushroom and lentil sloppy joe and miso pork or crispy tofu sandwiches. These are also available as salads for a lighter meal.
Breakfast Menu Option – Bacon, Egg and Halloumi with curry ketchup
This one is a Marla’s classic, a fan favourite, and we can definitely see why. Most importantly, this menu staple is available all day. You simply have to try this at least once (probably more than once). Even as the menu changes, Marla’s keeps bringing this back on the menu, otherwise I’m sure there would be an uproar amongst a few loyal customers. After seeing this classic pop up on Instagram repeatedly by Marla’s regulars, we had to dive into possibly the best breakfast sarnie in the city. Diving into the bacon, egg and halloumi we can clearly see why Marla’s recommends a bib for this one. The curried ketchup really takes it over the edge on all new taste levels. In summary, you need to go in and try this one ASAP.
Lunch Menu Option – Lemon Roasted Chicken and Maple Bacon with garlic aioli, tomato & lettuce
Firstly, this new addition to the menu is already a new favourite of mine. The sweet flavour of the maple bacon contrasts with the creamy garlic aioli perfectly, with the shredded lemon roasted chicken taking centre stage. Honestly, I couldn’t fault this sandwich one bit, nothing about it was dry or bland at all. Notably, the bacon was cooked to perfection and the shredded chicken was full of flavour. This large sandwich definitely filled me up, leaving a clean plate and a couple of used napkins (required with the juicy meats in this sarnie). All in all, I really hope they keep this one on the menu!
